The Official Home for Asian Golf Awards
The prestigious and much sought after Asian Golf Awards programme is now enshrined in its own dedicated web site. This virtual museum in cyberspace is devoted to recognising and honouring the best in the Asia Pacific Golf industry – men and women and clubs that collectively help deliver a world class experience for golf! It is widely regarded as the “Oscars” of the Asian golf club industry. The programme has just finished its 18th year and winners in over 50 award categories were recognized during the staging of the Asian Golf Awards in Da Nang, Vietnam.

Black Mountain Golf Club, West Course, Hua Hin

Asia’s Best Just Got Better!

The opening of Black Mountain, the golf club back in 2007 is still vivid in the minds of many golfers but it is perhaps best remembered by ASIAN GOLF because this was a breakthrough year for the new course located in Hua Hin in Thailand.

It was a golf course that was built in record time – to be precise, it took just 14 months to get it up and running. This was the commitment, drive and passion of its founder and owner, Stig Notlov. Back then, Black Mountain was already destined to climb up the honour roll of the golf club industry in the Asia Pacific. In 2007, the new 18-hole course made its first appearance on the list of winners for the 2007 Asian Golf Awards. In that year, it was recognized as the second best new course to open in Asia.

Since then, Black Mountain has gone on to dominate the Asian golf course landscape with clean sweeps in the Best Golf Course In Thailand category with the top spot since 2011, while claiming the same prestigious position in the Best Course In The Asia Pacific since 2014.

One of the unique hallmarks of Black Mountain is the owner’s insatiable appetite for change. Notlov is a firm believer that without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. And those who have been keen Black Mountain watchers can attest to the fact that change is a constant at the club.

The most recent was the addition of nine new holes to the already spectacular landscape of the original 18-holes. Again, the new nine hole facility was built in record time and the planning and designing of the new course was master-minded by Notlov in collaboration with a good friend of his, Swedish professional golfer Johan Edfors.

Both of them laboured over the project and the finished nine blends in seamlessly with the original 18 holes. “We now have a truly stunning 27-hole golf course and it takes the whole playing experience at Black Mountain to a new and exciting level,” said Harald Ellison, general manager of the club.

The new nine-holes named as the West Course is expected to be officially launched later this year. Commenting on the addition, Thailand’s famous professional golfer, Thongchai Jaidee said, “I had the privilege of playing on it shortly after it was completed and my friends Stig and Johan have done a fabulous job – it is an outstanding course.”

The 27-hole course is the final realization of Notlov’s initial vision when he first set his sights on the land in Hua Hin back in 2004. The dream then was to develop a golf course that would one day become the best in Asia. That day has arrived and so has his dream. As far as he is concerned, he is driven by a philosophy founded on the belief that one should never rest until your good is better and your better is the best.
